    Recipe Ingredients

This recipe is identical to the Aunt Jemima waffle recipe on the box, except I substituted butter for the vegetable oil to add a little extra flavor.

To whip up a batch of Aunt Jemima's famous waffles, gather the following ingredients. The full recipe will be in the recipe card below.

The ingredients for Aunt Jemima Waffles.

Aunt Jemima Mix (Pearl Milling Mix) provides the essential dry ingredients needed for the batter, such as flour, leavening agents, and often sugar and salt.

Milk adds moisture, richness, and flavor to the waffle batter. I like to use whole milk, but any milk will work fine.

Eggs act as a binding agent in the waffle batter, helping to hold the other ingredients together.

Butter or Vegetable Oil adds moisture and tenderness to the waffle batter and helps to create a crisp exterior on the waffles during cooking.

    Substitutions

    Buttermilk can replace the milk.

Canola oil, melted butter or coconut oil can be used in place of the vegetable oil. The coconut oil may change the taste just slightly.

How to Make this Aunt Jemima Waffle Mix Recipe

Add the dry ingredients and the wet ingredients to a large mixing bowl and mix with a wire whisk until the batter is smooth.

Adding the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients.

For best results, allow the batter to rest for 4-5 minutes while the waffle iron or waffle pan heats up.

Add the batter to the lightly greased waffle iron and do not overfill it. Close the waffle iron.

Allow the waffles to be cooked according to the waffle iron instructions.

Tips and Tricks for the Best Waffles

Adjust the amount of batter according to your waffle iron's capacity for the perfect waffle.

Use the DASH Multi Mini Waffle Maker for perfect mini waffles that can be reheated in the toaster.

    Storing Leftover Waffles

Aunt Jemima's waffles can easily be reheated for a quick breakfast option.

    How to Store Waffles

Store cooled waffles in a zip-top bag or airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

    How to Freeze Waffles

Let the waffles completely cool. Place parchment paper or wax paper between the waffles to prevent them from sticking together and add them to a freezer-safe bag. Remove as much air from the bag as you can and store them in the freezer for a couple of months.

    How to Reheat Waffles

To enjoy Aunt Jemima waffles later, reheat them in a toaster, toaster oven, or a regular oven until they are heated through. This method ensures that your waffles are crispy.

    Flavor Variations

    • Chocolate: Add mini chocolate chips for a sweet chocolatey twist.
    • Fruit: Experiment with different flavors by adding fresh fruit, such as blueberries, to the batter.

    Waffle Toppings

Experiment with different toppings to find your perfect combination.

Top your Aunt Jemima waffles with a knob of butter, a drizzle of maple syrup, or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a delicious breakfast or a delightful dessert.

Fruit, such as fresh strawberries and raspberries, whipped cream, or a sprinkle of powdered sugar can elevate your waffle experience.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best way to reheat waffles?

The best way to reheat waffles is in a toaster oven or a regular oven. Preheat the oven to around 300°F (150°C) and place the waffles directly on the oven rack or a baking sheet. Heat them for 5-7 minutes or until they are warmed through and crispy on the outside. This method helps to retain the waffles' texture and prevents them from becoming soggy. Alternatively, you can use a toaster set to a low-medium setting, toasting the waffles until they are heated through and crispy. Avoid reheating waffles in the microwave, as this can make them soft and rubbery.

What should be the consistency of my waffle batter?

The consistency of your waffle batter should be smooth and pourable, similar to that of pancake batter. It should flow easily off a spoon but still have enough thickness to cling to the waffle iron and form a fluffy center with a crispy exterior when cooked. If the batter is too thick, it may result in dense waffles, while if it's too thin, the waffles may not hold their shape or cook evenly.
