Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl and the wet ingredients in a separate bowl.
Whisk the wet ingredients together and add the flour. Mix them together.
Grease the donut pan with oil. Use a spoon or fill a pastry bag with the batter and fill it ¾ full.
Let the donut cool and add icing or frosting. Then decorate using sprinkles, candy eggs, marshmallow bunnies and coconut.
Recipe Tips & Tricks
- Mix the icing right before you are ready to begin frosting the donuts. The icing will begin to set in the bowl if left too long.
- Add the sprinkles and/or coconut before the icing hardens on the donut to make sure it sticks well.
- Let the donut cool completely before adding the icing.
Storage
- Storage: The donuts can be stored in an air-tight container for 4 days. However, the color from the bunny and eggs may start to rub off on the frosting.
Substitutions
- Icing: You can substitute the icing for prepackaged frosting. Just warm a little up in a bowl and dip the donut in.
Variations
There are so many ways to use Easter candy on these donuts. Here are a few more ideas.
- Jelly Beans - These could replace the Cadbury Mini Eggs on the coconut donut.
- Yellow Marshmallow Chicks - You could make a coconut nest with a baby chick on top.
- Colored Icing - You could add dye to make several pastel-colored donuts and decorate with white sprinkles.
It would also be cute to make an Easter Donut grazing board. You could include your decorated donuts, fruit, chocolate dip and more!
Frequently Asked Questions
Cake donuts have a delicate crumb and are made with bakings soda and/or baking powder. Yeast donuts have more of a bread-like texture and are leavened with yeast.
Cake donuts are traditionally baked, similar to how a cake is baked. However, some recipes call for the donuts to be fried, which can be challenging because the batter is not thick like a yeast-risen dough. Special kitchen tools can help pour the batter into the hot oil so the donut keeps its shape.
