    Frequently Asked Questions

What can you substitute for chili seasoning?

Store-bought packets are convenient, but making your own chili seasoning at home is really easy and a great way to use some of those spices you have laying around. Start with chili powder as your base of your seasoning. Next you will want to include onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Ground cumin adds warmth and a bit of tanginess. You can also add cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes if you want to add some heat to your chili.

Can I substitute taco seasoning for chili seasoning?

Taco seasoning and chili seasoning are two very different flavors. First, try looking in your spice rack to see if you can make a homemade chili seasoning substitute. Look for chili powder, onion powder, garlic powder, cumin, salt and pepper. If you have all those spices I would use them to make a homemade chili seasoning. Otherwise, you could use half a packet of taco seasoning and add extra chili powder to the chili.

What is chili seasoning made of?

Chili seasoning is primarily made with chili powder and a few other spices to add a dynamic flavor profile. Adding onion powder, garlic powder, ground cumin, salt and pepper rounds out a nice homemade chili seasoning. If you want to include a spicy kick, try adding cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes.

Worked very well for my favorite 3 bean chili recipe. I wouldn't have known to use crushed red pepper flake in chili seasoning. Loved the additional spice it added. Thank you!
